This project was launched in August 1999 with two 1-day sessions offered for both Georgians and Abkhazians separately to explore the implications of the developments in the Balkans for the Caucasus and to explore lessons learned from the Balkans for the negotiation process in the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict.

The seminars were held in Sukhumi and Tbilisi and were a culmination of diagnostic analysis and fact-finding trips to the region.

Sukhimi

The seminars aimed at addressing some critical issues identified during the diagnostic phase as well as laying out a foundation for future work with the parties.

Plans are currently under way for a July seminar at CMG. The Seminar will focus on trust building and negotiation skills and will engage participants from the region.
