Dialogue Project:

Georgia - South Ossetia Media & Survey

Tskhinvali, May 1998

MEDIA:

CMG conducted a survey on public opinion and media in Georgia, South Ossetia and North Ossetia-Alania (Russian Federation). The goal of the survey was to expose the effects of stereotypes on the Georgia - South Ossetia negotiation process. The results of the survey will help parties and international organizations develop more effective strategies for changing stereotypes with the cooperation of mass media.

CMG plans to work with the mass media in the Caucasus to harness their potential for transforming public opinion and to help create public support for a more flexible approach to resolving conflicts.

"The Joint Brainstorming Sessions which you facilitated...have made a notable contribution to overcoming controversies between Georgians and Ossetians. I believe that the practical ideas generated at these meetings greatly enhance the ongoing reconciliation process..."
